Happy New Year
Another resolution is to improve my relationships with others.
There’s a story of a conversation Bill Clinton had with Edward de Bono a couple of years ago, when they were both in Hong Kong.
Bill asked Edward his opinion of what, in an ideal world, ‘the perfect nation’ would look like.
De Bono is said to have replied:
It would have an ethnically diverse population of twenty to twenty-five million people. English would be the national language. It would be religiously and economically liberated, have a democratic form of government and a vigorous free press. I’d locate it somewhere along the Pacific Rim. It would have a young history and an optimistic outlook. And a generous climate that lent itself to encouraging all its people - rich or poor - to enjoy the wonderful free gifts nature has to offer.
‘Sounds wonderful,’ Clinton wistfully remarked. ‘What would you call it?’ he asked.
‘Oh, I wouldn’t change its name,’ de Bono replied. ‘”Australia” will do fine.’
One of the main benefits I got out of the Breakthrough to Success Wealth & Power weekend was the impovement in my communication skills. The realization that through leading and empowering others I can change my own life was a real revelation.
Do you experience frustration at work when things don't appear to be happening the way you know they are supposed to happen? Do you often see other people moving upwards and acting productive but nothing seems to beaccomplished for yourself? Do you feel that your goals and benchmarks remain just that...goals and benchmarks? Then maybe it's time for you to get up and do something about it, be proactive about meeting your goals and increasing productivity, Become a Leader.
Great leaders are created through hard work, dedication and experience. A leader contributes to the productivity and cohesion of an organization. Leadership requires a huge commitment; good leaders are constantly working and studying to improve their skills.
Contrary to what most people believe, leadership is not always about harnessing power. It is not about harassing people, controlling their every move or increasing their efficiency through fear. It is about bringing people together and encouraging them to work towards a common goal. It is about empowering others to lead themselves. If you want to be a great leader you must be a leader and not a boss. You have to relate to people and feel what they feel, you need to keep them on track and most importantly you need to find out their goals and empower those people to accomplish them.
Communication is the key to good leadership. Without proper communication you cannot be or become a good leader. You must be able to clearly communicate and explain your thoughts, ideas and needs.
Since attending the Breakthrough to Success Wealth & Power weekend I have worked on improving my own communication skills. Through this single focus I have enriched my working relationships and attained new positions witin the organisation that I work for.
Yes, I also got a payrise!!!!
I really encourage you to focus on improving your communication skills. Through this work you will improve your relationships with those around you and empower yourself to new goals. Imagine everyone at work noticing the change in yourself and following your lead to change their own lives as well as yours.
You are unique. There is no one else on Earth who evaluates their life, business, or their expertise like you do.
There will be times in your life that you'll look at the people competing against you in your area of expertise, whether it is career, relationships, sports, finance etc and yhou will ask yourself, "Why should I bother trying because everything that could be done, has been done? Everything that can be said, has been said. Everything that has been thought of, has been thought of?"
Nothing could be further from the truth!
The human experience is a very complex one with internal (genetic) forces and external (environmental) forces that shape our perspectives, opinions, values, beliefs and convictions.
You are unduplicatable.
Think for a moment of everyone you know: I bet you can't think of someone who has had an identical combination of your abilities, talents, friends, style, business opportunities, and problems? But are they exactly the same as you? Do they do their thing exactly the way you do it? Do you both achieve exactly the same results?
Celebrate your uniqueness and know that NO ONE evaluates your area of expertise like you do...and thus, you can always offer a fresh, never-heard-before perspective.
Share your uniqueness. Engage in more quality interactions with people without any fear of treading on someone else's perspective. No one evaluates life like you do!
